Science Fiction
Went in for the sci-fi setup, and that part is doing the heavy lifting so far.
The early stretch has a proper stranded-in-space tension to it, which is harder to pull off than it looks. Once a book gets the atmosphere right, I’ll forgive a lot. Survival stories need that pressure in the bones. Otherwise they just feel like people having a bad day in expensive surroundings.
Also, I’m already more interested in the situation than the packaging around it. Which is usually a good sign.
